 About Amyris Fragrance

Amyris was created in 2012, when we began cold-pressing almond oils, virgin coconut oils, and

flaxseed oils which were used in aromatherapy and other fields. The virgin black seed oil (Nigella Sativa) we use is from herbal treatments. At Amyris we understand that the fragrance of the perfume matters most. It is not the packaging or marketing which really makes a perfume unique – but the scent it carries. We work hard every day producing perfumes which then undergo strict testing and evaluating, to find the most arresting scents for the market. Whether you are looking for the perfect perfume for yourself or you are a retailer looking to introduce your own brand into the market – please get in touch for a further discussion about our bespoke perfume making capabilities and tailor-made scents.

 How the Process Works

As described above, our perfumes are created by combining numbers of essential oils. There are hundreds of essential oils and thousands of fragrance oils, so the number of different concoctions number in the millions. Essential oils are created through a distillation process that is expensive and time consuming. Essential oils are far more expensive to use than fragrance oils which are made by chemists in a laboratory. At Amyris, we do not mix fragrance oils with the more luxurious essential oils.

There are a number of different variations of perfume. True perfume has a composition of around 15 to 30%, whilst Eau de Parfum only has around 8 to 15% concentration so the scent is lighter and subtler. Eau de Toilette has a 5 to 8 % concentration and Eau de Cologne is around 3 to 5 %. At Amyris, we create a number of different perfumes, by taking advantage of the finest oils to create something truly unique and special for men and women. The History of Perfumes

Humans have been using perfumes since ancient times, and they have a long and varied history. It was in the Egyptian empire that the first perfumes were created, to be used in religious ceremonies and for daily wear. Persians also adopted this new product, but it was with the Greeks and Romans that perfume became mass-produced and used in a manner that would be recognised nowadays. Greeks and Romans created perfumes using a mixture of coriander, laurel, lavender, myrtle and rosemary.

Perfume continued to be used throughout the medieval periods and the focus of the perfume trade centered on Venice. By the 18th century, perfume had truly established itself, as advances in chemistry meant that synthetic ingredients could replace more expensive materials. Finally, in the 20th century, perfumes really were mass produced and eventually evolved into the $10 billion-dollar industry we see today.
